Choosing your wedding dress will probably be one of the biggest decisions that you make when planning your big day, so here are a few tips to help you along the way to finding your dream dress.
You have probably been dreaming of your wedding dress since being a little girl, so shopping for 'the one' can seem quite daunting.
Plan and do your research before you go to any dress shops. Look through bridal magazines and online for the styles of dresses that you like and cut out or print out any of your favourites. You can then take these along with you when you have your first dress consultation to give them an idea of the styles that you like.
Plan ahead. Make sure that you give yourself plenty of time to find your dress, as once you have found 'the one,' the ordering process can take upto six months or more for some dresses.
Work out how much you have to spend from your wedding budget for your dress. Also remember to include an extra amount in your budget for any alterations that you may need to make to your dress, along with your accessories such as shoes, veil, tiara, underwear and jewellery.
When first going out to look for a dress, don't take to many people along with you - just keep it to a select one or two. Make it someone that you trust to give you a honest opinion, like your Mum or best friend.
Keep an open mind when trying on dresses - it's normally the ones that you would first pick that suit you the best. Listen to the consultant at the dress shop, as they will have had lots of experience dressing brides-to-be and will know what suits your shape. Also, a lot of dresses are not shown to their full potential whilst still on the hanger.
This may sound obvious, but make sure that you wear appropriate clothing and underwear whilst out dress shopping, as you will probably be getting undressed in front of the dress shop consultant. You may want to wear a strapless bra too.
Trust your instincts! You will know when you have 'the one' on. If you have to ask for too much reassurance from others when trying a dress on then it probably isn't the one for you.
